    Oh, for pity’s sake. I’ve been looking at all those German trench mortars, based on the wheel bit you showed, but never found a pic that showed the traversing gear!

    Yup you got it, naturally. Don’t suppose you know the size? The plaque (which is hard to see in the first pic and cropped from second) tells me that. I’ll put up the full plaque text later.

    And, of course, now that I don’t need it, I find the picture I was looking for – of a mortar at the AWM in Canberra, no less.
