Donate to Valour-IT

It’s the closing days of the drive for donations to Project Valour-IT, last time I looked $68,467 has been secured to help injured soldiers. We need a lot more. In the past, 2,700+ specialist laptops have been provided to help them communicate with loved ones and thus aid their recovery. Fuzzybear lioness, a good hearted [...]

Commonwealth Bank Can’t Keep Accounts in Order

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia, one of the biggest banks over here has a rather serious glitch conservatively affecting 200,000 customers which is a fairly toxic 1% of our population.  Appears their outsourcing to IBM who outsource to India is related to the cause. I bank with them and checked our accounts.  We’ve been affected.  [...]

Couped up at the Farm

SWWBO (Beth), Queen of Castle Argghhh!!! is opening a new blog focused on her farming efforts which have so far been about fixing her large but not very productive chicken population.  Mind you Beth has already blogged extensively on her farming antics over at  her original blog since they got the place.

Conserving Conservatism – Wrapping it Up

The USA has a fantastic constitutional system. Perfect? Perhaps not but even there it has room for fair amendment of which several have been made. It has a sound basis on other works like the Magna Carta. It’s structured on freedom. It balances power. It protects rights.. and it’s proven to be workable, not just [...]

Conserving Conservatism – Conservatism Stills Works

So finally we get to the current showstopper. A real killer of US conservatism. Disenfranchisement, or whatever you would like to call it. Having more Americans involved with society has to be a central goal. I started with the bedrock to kill discrimination. Doing so will help vastly in this area. It will fundamentally reduce [...]

US-Afghanistan Military Gastronomy

I made a casual statement I wonder what he thinks of the food Imagine my surprise to get such a well fitted answer in the comments.  I reproduce the translation of Merlin’s comments below.  It was kindly provided by commenter Emmanuel Zitnik from which blog I am not certain.  Perhaps the previous translator. I admit [...]

French Fries Again?

US Milblogs have noticed this kindly offered translation of a French OMLT infantryman’s words.  The original post in French is in Le blog de merlin.  He talks about US soldiers working in Afghanistan.  It’s an interesting look through eyes we rarely see.  I wonder what he thinks of the food.

What can’t you see on webcam?

If sex, computer geeks and endless views of scenery aren’t enough some kid decides to take the long nap on webcam and has audience to encourage him along. I recall another suicide by a crook in custody on police video but this was not a live webcam. I don’t understand people urging suicides on.  It’s [...]

Conserving Conservatism – How will Conservatives Win?

By representing Americans. Such a simple question has a simple answer. This is really how all politicians win. Everything below really drums that point home. Represent Americans. The first most obvious point is that the rise of Liberals is resulting from fundamental failures in the conservative system and/or actions of the day. I have already [...]

Conserving Conservatism – What makes a Conservative a Conservative?

I have already described the base conservative versus liberal values. Over time I’ve managed to garner some of the factors that increase the chance an individual is conservative or Liberal in nature. Conservatives tend to be; Older, white, male, straight, Christian. Liberals tend to be; Younger, non white, female, gay, non-Christian. On the surface this [...]

Conserving Conservatism – Mistakes of the Conservatives – Current Practices

These mistakes are related to current practices and are not about idealism or the systemic nature of conservatism.  These issues can be turned around, and in relatively short order. 1) The American Dream One of the biggest issues that’s killing capitalistic, constitutional conservatism cold is the fading of the American Dream. The American Dream isn’t [...]

Conserving Conservatism – Mistakes of the Conservatives – Idealistic

These mistakes are mirrored by the Liberals and are a result of more extreme idealistic thinking clashing with practical reality. This is something both conservatives and Liberals do. 1) Putting Words in Other People’s Mouths Oh this trick is positively ancient. Instead of letting the opponent state their actual position, or make their own gaffes [...]

Conserving Conservatism – Mistakes of the Conservatives – Systemic

Now we discuss the deep rooted conservative mistakes that helped lead to the election result we all know about.  I am not claiming these mistakes are the whole story of the election result because there are many factors not least being the economic downturn, but are rather that which is directly related to conservatives.  In [...]

Conserving Conservatism – Conservative and Liberal Mix-ups

For the most part the conservative and Liberal stances are as can be expected. Attitudes to guns, the military, sex, law etc. are all rather easy to understand from the basis of rebellion or retention. But it’s not all straightforward, here’s some areas conservatives and liberals seem mixed up in. Economics In some places socialism [...]

Conserving Conservatism – How Conservatives and Liberals Work

I introduce a series here on Conserving Conservatism of about 9 posts where I will show problems which caused the recent election loss and forge a way forward for conservatives to consider. In some ways I’m an insatiably curious man. Good? Bad? Who knows. I can merely say it’s good for me. After spending so [...]
